AP Source: Miami's Josh Richardson partially tears MCL

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 7:23 p.m. ET

MIAMI (AP) A person with knowledge of the situation says shooting guard Josh Richardson of the Miami Heat partially tore the medial collateral ligament in his right knee in an offseason workout Friday.

It's unknown if Richardson will be ready for the start of the regular season, said the person, who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the team had not divulged the severity of the injury.

The Heat are scheduled to open training camp Sept. 27.

Richardson averaged 6.6 points in 52 games with Miami last season, but saw his stock soar after the All-Star break. He shot 53 percent from 3-point range in that span, reaching double figures 14 times in a 23-game stretch.
