Anthony Davis is already viewed by many as being one of the game's top three players after just three NBA seasons, and now he's taking on a leadership role in New Orleans that will only improve his status with the team, and further allow him to gain the respect of his fellow players.

Davis and teammate Quincy Pondexter took the initiative to organize voluntary workouts with their teammates, which will begin in Los Angeles this week and feature as many as 10 current Pelicans players.

“Quincy and I had been talking about getting the team together and just reunite for a few days,” Davis said, via Scott Kushner of the New Orleans Advocate. “We made some calls, and a lot of guys jumped on board. It’ll be great to get back in the gym with the guys and get some work in before training camp rolls around in a few weeks."

''We're looking forward to pin this thing early because we want to get out to a good start,'' Pondexter said, via John Reid of NOLA.com. ''It starts with the improvement in the summer time, coming together and working at it.We've got to learn how to play better together consistently.''

The Pelicans are expected to make a leap during the upcoming season, due to a combination of Davis' ever-evolving talent, along with a new head coach in Alvin Gentry who is expected to maximize the team's offensive potential. Getting the bulk of the team together before training camp even begins is a positive sign, and a great head start.
