Worried about Zika, MLB players question Puerto Rico games

MIAMI (AP) Players from the Miami Marlins and Pittsburgh Pirates are raising questions about going ahead with two upcoming games in Puerto Rico because of the Zika virus.

Officials with Major League Baseball, the Marlins and Pirates expect the games to be played as scheduled May 30-31, they said Thursday. But the teams, MLB and the players union are continuing discussions about the trip.

The virus can be transmitted through mosquito bites or sexual intercourse, and has been linked to severe birth defects.

Marlins pitcher Craig Breslow says the safety of the players and their families has to be paramount. He also says that it may not be fair to ask players who want to expand or start families to wait.
