Williams explains adding Wilmer Difo to Nationals' 25-man roster

Many Nationals fans were scratching their heads at a recent move the team made to call up prospect Wilmer Difo to the 25-man roster in the wake of Jayson Werth being placed on the disabled list.
After all, it seemed strange for the Nationals to replace Werth, an outfielder, with an infielder in Difo.
Nonetheless, the move fits well with the Nationals' needs, particularly their lack of depth in the middle infield.
"[Difo's] on our roster. He's one of our top prospects. And that being said, we're giving him an opportunity to come here and experience it," manager Matt Williams said of the move. "We do have pretty good coverage in the outfield with Michael and T-Mo and Clint. The issue that we have run into if we get down to it in a long game is that extra infielder."
With Anthony Rendon on the disabled list, the Nationals only have one other true infielder, second baseman Dan Uggla, on the bench.
Difo can not only play both middle infield positions, but can also switch-hit and run well.
The 23-year-old has already shown his exciting potential at the big-league level, as he slapped a hit in his first major-league at-bat and made a nice play at shortstop in the Nationals' win on Tuesday.
