WATCH: Coghlan's HR was close call, but umps made the right call
It took nearly four minutes for the umpiring crew to make the call, that's how difficult it was too tell if Cubs slugger Chris Coghlan's blast to left field had actually cleared the high wall at Great American Ball Park for a home run.
A Cincinnati Reds fan tried to make the grab, stretching his arms out over the yellow marking at the top of the wall to further distort the view. The ball seemed to barely get over the wall, but it bounced back onto the field. A hustling Coghlan slid into third as the umpire initially ruled it in play. Coghlan popped up pleading that it was gone.
Then the question was if the fan touched the ball before it crossed the yellow barrier, which would have resulted in fan interference and sent Coghlan back to second.
So it was on to replay.
It took a while, but the crew made the right call: Home run.
