Watch a catapult take out the Marlins mascot with first pitch

There have been a wide array of unique first pitches over the years. We've seen some terrible throws from the likes of 50 Cent, and an adorable one from Derrick Rose's 3-year-old son. But rarely do we see a contraption like this throw a baseball to open a game.

The Coral Park Ram Tech engineering team built a catapult to throw out the first pitch at Tuesday's Rays-Marlins game, and it fired some heat. The pitch, which was a strike, knocked over the Marlins mascot, who was acting as the catcher.

The catapult design won a competition among schools in the area. It wasn't an easy contraption to design, either. The catapult kept breaking with every attempt, making it extremely difficult to master.
