Valbuena officially day-to-day with sprained toe
The Houston Astros can add Luis Valbuena to their list of banged-up players.
On Monday, after a few days of continued pain, an x-ray of his left big toe revealed a sprain.
Said manager A.J. Hinch of Valbuena's condition to the Houston Chronicle's Evan Drellich: “He’s sore. His toe is very sore. He’s not going to start. He’s not going to have any activity on the field. Trying to nurse him back to better health. Any time you have a foot problem, it’s painful. …Hopefully, a day of rest will be good for him.”
Drellich adds that Valbuena's ailment may in fact be 'turf toe', based on the symptoms he's experienced. The Astros are hopeful that a few days off will do the trick and that he won't require a stint on the disabled list.
So far in 2015, Valbuena is hitting just .203/.286/.438, though he has 19 home runs and 36 RBIs in his first year with Houston.
