Theriot taken out with shin contusion

Published May. 6, 2011 10:44 p.m. ET

Shortstop Ryan Theriot has left the St. Louis Cardinals' game against the Milwaukee Brewers with a bruised left shin.

Theriot was hit by a pitch in the first inning. He went to second on Colby Rasmus' single, but was still favoring his leg and needed medical attention.

Daniel Descalso batted for Theriot in the fourth and also was hit by Randy Wolf, but remained in Friday night's game to play third base. Tyler Greene moved from second base to shortstop and Nick Punto switched from third to second.
