The Kansas City Royals are the best team in baseball -- in TV ratings
The Kansas City Royals are in first place in the American League Central. But they're the best team in baseball when it comes to television ratings.
The Royals TV broadcasts are the highest-rated in all of Major League Baseball, according to a story from the Kansas City Business Journal:
"From April 6 to April 30, about 13.4 percent of TV households in the media market watched a Royals game during the key 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. time, according to data from Nielsen Media Research Inc. FSKC said the average April rating of 12.1 -- meaning about 120,000 households in the media market were watching -- is the best TV rating for an MLB team on a regional sports network since 2002.
The Royals' average rating for the entire 2014 season was 6.7. Compared with April 2014, the Royals ratings have increased 120 percent. Ratings for the pre- and post-game shows are up by 158 percent and 181 percent, respectively."
The article also notes that as the season heats up and competing broadcasters start airing summer reruns, ratings may increase even more.
