Texas RHP Tepesch leaves after being hit by liner

Published Apr. 20, 2013 10:33 p.m. ET

Rangers right-hander Nick Tepesch has left his start against Seattle in the second inning after being hit by a line drive above the right wrist.

The Rangers say he has a bruised right wrist and he will be evaluated further Sunday. Team doctor Keith Meister examined Tepesch Saturday night.

The rookie right-hander immediately began shaking his right arm after Seattle's Jesus Montero lined a drive that hit Tepesch and caromed into shallow right field. Tepesch appeared to be bleeding just above the wrist.

Tepesch threw a couple of warmup pitches after that, but Texas opted to bring in reliever Derek Lowe.

Tepesch, who came into the game with a 1-1 record and a 3.46 ERA, was making his third career start.
