Steve Tolleson's DFA in July drawing attention from players union
Toronto Blue Jays infielder Steve Tolleson was designated for assignment on July 1 this season, a move that might get the attention of Major League Baseball, according to Sportsnet.
Tolleson's agent, Ben Hendricks of Hendricks Sports Management, hasn't filed a grievance with the league, but the situation is being looked at by the MLB players union.
On Wednesday, GM Alex Anthopoulos commented on the situation, telling reporters, ""Steve Tolleson just decided he didn’t want to play anymore."
"Obviously I thought [Anthopoulos' comment] was an unfortunate comment to make," Hendricks told Sportsnet. "If the question is did Steve Tolleson decide not to play, then absolutely not. He’s working to get back on the field as fast as he possibly can. He’s put in a lot of blood, sweat and tears.
"It’s been a long road to this point, he’s hoping to get on the field before the end of the season if his body co-operates."
In 19 games with the Jays this season, Tolleson is hitting .263/.333/.439.
