Ryan Howard Receives Standing Ovation, Just Misses Home Run
In what will most likely be the final three games of his Phillies career, Ryan Howard was properly acknowledged by the fans
On a cold, damp night in Philadelphia, not many fans ventured out to watch the Phillies play the New York Mets.
Those who did got to see Ryan Howard for what may be the last time. The Phillies will most likely decline the option in the first baseman’s contract, which would pay him over $20 million.
While the crowd at Citizens Bank Park was not as large as you would typically see on a September night, those who were there gave Ryan Howard some much deserved respect in his first at-bat.
Howard received a nice standing ovation from the crowd as he walked to the plate. It was not a Chase Utley standing ovation, but it was still a nice sign from the fans after some tough seasons for the Big Piece.
On the second pitch Howard saw, he crushed a ball to straight-away center field. The ball unfortunately hit the wall and missed a home run by inches. Howard stopped at second and helped get Maikel Franco in position to score on a Cameron Rupp sacrifice fly.

Howard will most likely get that kind of reception for the remaining two games. The Phillies will recognize the first baseman prior to Sunday’s game against the Mets on Fan Appreciation Day.
