Royals' Hosmer building a case for All-Star nod

For the first time in his career, Kansas City Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer is building an All-Star case.

After a rough start to his career in KC, Hosmer is finally becoming the player they had hoped for.

The Royals drafted Hosmer straight out of high school with the third overall pick in the 2008 MLB Draft. He was a highly coveted prospect who was projected to hit for power and high average.

Hosmer experienced his fair share of struggles throughout his minor-league career, but seemed to find his way when he was first called up to the majors in 2011, hitting .293 with 19 home runs in 128 games.

Following a sophomore slump in 2012, Hosmer had dramatic ups and downs over the next two seasons, highlighted by a hot streak during the Royals' 2014 playoff run.

After playing such a huge part in last year's postseason success, Hosmer had high expectations heading into the 2015 and he has not disappointed.

Going into Tuesday's game, Hosmer is hitting .324 with 29 RBI and seven home runs -- two shy of his home run total in 2014.

He's finally starting to pan out as the major-league player many expected him to be and has become a critical part of the Royals' offense.

Hosmer is off to the best start of his career and is undoubtedly in the conversation as a 2015 All-Star.
