Rosenthal: Rockies GM Dan O'Dowd announces his resignation

Colorado Rockies general manager Dan O'Dowd has resigned, as first reported by FOX Sports 1 MLB Insider Ken Rosenthal.

The has promoted senior director of player development Jeff Bridich to the GM role.

The Rockies finished the 2014 season with a 66-96 record, 28 games behind the NL West champion Los Angeles Dodgers. It was their fourth consecutive season with a losing record and their fifth consecutive season without a playoff berth.

O'Dowd had been the team's GM since September of 1999. The Rockies earned a wild-card berth in 2007 and 2009, advancing all the way to the World Series in 2007 before being swept by the Boston Red Sox.

Since the start of the 2000 season, Colorado ranks 27th in the majors with a .464 winning percentage.

According to Rosenthal, Rockies assistant general manager William Geivett also has stepped down.
