Rockies' Rosario optioned to Triple-A
To make room for John Axford -- who is coming off the restricted list -- the Rockies sent their former catcher and current backup first baseman, Wilin Rosario, to Triple-A Albuquerque. Rosario wasn’t happy. Nick Groke of the Denver Post quotes him:
"I don't feel good," Rosario said. "I'd be lying to you if I said that. I need to be here. I'm playing at a big-league level.”
It’s not like he hasn’t been doing well. He’s hitting .357 with three doubles in 14 at-bats. Bryan Kilpatrick of Purple Row captured Walt Weiss’s explanation for the move:
"This wasn't to do with performance," Rockies manager Walt Weiss said on Wednesday. "We needed bullpen help and this was the play we had.”
The bullpen help is not only from John Axford, but also from reliever Scott Oberg who was recalled from Triple-A as LaTroy Hawkins went on the 15-day DL. An extra pitcher might bring some relief for a Rockies bullpen that’s been used quite a bit so far this season.
