Rockies players not planning on participating in home run derby
Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki was the captain of the National League All-Star home run derby team last year, but has no plans to participate this year or anytime in the near future, according to the Denver Post. Although he may be an All-Star this year, with only eight home runs thus far it’s unlikely Tulowitzki would have been selected for the derby anyway.
Third baseman Nolan Arenado will certainly be an All-Star and may be asked to participate in the derby. His 24 home runs are tied for third in the NL. He’s not looking to be in the derby though. Per the Post, he said “it would be too much” considering it would be his first All-Star Game, and he worries that it would "mess” with his swing.
For his part, Rockies manager Walt Weiss would have no problem if either participated it in it saying, “if a guy has a chance to be in the Home Run Derby, take it."
