Rockies' LeMahieu hits .400 in April

Published Apr. 30, 2015 5:47 p.m. ET

The Rockies Twitter account and the blog Purple Row pointed out the other day that second baseman DJ LeMahieu was leading the majors in hitting. As the month of April comes to a close, LeMahieu is one of three players hitting .400 and is second in baseball with a .406 average.

This fact may come as a surprise to some people as the Gold Glove second baseman is better known for his defensive prowess. He has a .283 career average. Seeing a Rockie among the leaderboards in hitting is not surprising though. A Rockie has led the National League in batting average each of the past two seasons -- Micheal Cuddyer in 2013 and Justin Morneau in 2014.
