Rockies' Gonzalez on striking D-backs' Bradley with liner: 'It was a nightmare'

Published Apr. 29, 2015 4:17 p.m. ET

Carlos Gonzalez felt terrible after the game regarding the fact that it was a ball hit off his bat which hit young D-back pitcher Archie Bradley in the face. Barry M. Bloom of MLB.com quotes him:

"For me, as a hitter, it was a nightmare," said Gonzalez, with the 12-5 loss in the books and of little consequence. "It's something you don't try to do, especially to a guy like him, who is really young and is starting his career. It's devastating. It just ruined my night. It just ruined everybody's night.”

The ball came off Gonzalez’s bat at 115 mph. Fortunately for Bradley, he didn’t lose consciousness or suffer a concussion, but he did show bruising and swelling on his face.

Gonzalez wished nothing but the best for Bradley.

"Of course I will see him," Gonzalez said. "He's a very talented pitcher. If he can stay healthy, he's a guy I believe can be a superstar and in the big leagues for a long time. I will feel really happy when I see him pitch again.”
