Rockies coach Dauer struck in nose by ball

Published Aug. 15, 2011 6:28 a.m. ET

Colorado Rockies third base coach Rich Dauer was taken to an emergency room after getting his nose broken by a throw during batting practice.

Dauer was back in the coaches' locker room after a 6-2 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday night and had been cleared for the flight back to Denver. The Rockies don't know whether Dauer would be back on the field Monday against the Florida Marlins.

Dauer was hurt during a double play drill by a throw from Chris Nelson. Infielders had been practicing double plays without making the relay before Nelson's throw.

First base coach Glenallen Hill moved to third base for Sunday night's game against the St. Louis Cardinals and catching coordinator Marv Foley coached first base.
