Report: Red Sox offer Sandoval 5-year, $95 million deal
The Boston Red Sox offered free-agent third baseman Pablo Sandoval a five-year, $95 million deal, the Boston Globe reported on Friday.
The 28-year-old Sandoval, who helped the San Francisco Giants win their third World Series title in the last five years, would give the Red Sox stability at the hot corner and also give the team another powerful lefthanded bat to complement David Ortiz.
The Padres are also believed to be interested in Sandoval, and the Giants want him back, too. Giants assistant general manager Bobby Evans says he has been given "every indication" Sandoval will give careful consideration to re-signing with San Francisco.
Evans spoke with Sandoval's agent Gustavo Vasquez on Thursday, and they have been in regular contact.
"I have every indication that we're very much in the middle of this process," Evans said during a telephone interview after speaking on KNBR radio. "The timeline that I mentioned today is just my sense, that he'll come to a point where he's more likely to make a decision before Thanksgiving. There's no deadline, that's just my sense."
Evans said Sandoval could decide on contract offers as soon as Thanksgiving next week.
