Report: Red Sox, Gonzalez finalize deal

The Boston Rex Sox are expected to announce Friday that they have reached a deal for a seven-year, $154 million contract extension with Adrian Gonzalez.

Gonzalez, obtained from the San Diego Padres in a multi-player trade last December, will sign the largest deal ever given by the club's current ownership, Comcast SportsNet New England reported. Manny Ramirez's eight-year, $160 million deal was signed by the club's previous owners.

In the offseason, Boston lured free-agent outfielder Carl Crawford with a seven-year, $142 million deal. The club announced a four-year extension this week with pitcher Clay Buchholz.

Gonzalez is under contract for $6.5 million this season. A three-time All-Star, Gonzalez is in his eighth season in the majors. He has a career average of .282 with 169 home runs.
