Report: Phillies claim Peter Bourjos, sign him to one-year deal
Apparently, the Matt Klentak-led Philadelphia Phillies are fast movers.
On Tuesday, the Phillies claimed Peter Bourjos on waivers from the St. Louis Cardinals:
Just a couple hours later, Philly had reportedly signed the speedy outfielder to a one-year deal, avoiding arbitration:
As Jeff Passan noted, the deal is worth $2 million for the 2016 season, his last season before hitting free agency.
Klentak, of course, came to Philadelphia after being the assistant GM for the Los Angeles Angels, where Bourjos played for four seasons before getting dealt to St. Louis.
Bourjos had a breakout season in 2011 season, hitting 12 home runs and leading the AL in triples with 11. He has yet to replicate those numbers in recent seasons and hit an even .200 with four homers and 13 RBI in 225 plate appearances.
Phillies have claimed Peter Bourjos off waivers from the #stlcards.
