Report: Mets' David Wright could be cleared for limited activities next week

Published Jul. 2, 2015 4:09 a.m. ET

David Wright won't be returning to the New York Mets at the All-Star break as general manager Sandy Alderson had hoped for, but he might not be too far off if everything goes to plan for Wright in the coming weeks.

The New York Post reported Wednesday that Wright, who has spinal stenosis, has made "significant progress" in strengthening his back and "there is a strong possibility he will be cleared to begin running and fielding grounders next week."

The Mets will know more about Wright's condition when they visit Los Angeles, where the perennial All-Star third baseman has been rehabbing his back and consulting with specialist Dr. Robert Watkins, for a series over the weekend.

The Post notes that if Wright is indeed able to resume limited baseball activities next week, "he could possibly be in position to rejoin the Mets by late July."
