Report: Andy MacPhail slated to join Phillies' front office

The rumored major move in the Philadelphia Phillies' front office appears as though it will indeed come to fruition.

MLB.com reported Wednesday that the Phillies are expected to announce sometime this week that longtime baseball executive Andy MacPhail has accepted a "prominent role" with the organization.

Current team president Pat Gillick said earlier in the week that a new executive who would eventually replace him in his current post would be hired "somewhere in the not-too-distant future."

"MacPhail likely will replace Gillick as president and use the foreseeable future to evaluate the baseball-operations staff," MLB.com's report reads.

The 64-year-old MacPhail last worked as the Baltimore Orioles' president of baseball operations from 2007 to 2011.

He began his career as a baseball executive as a general manager for the Minnesota Twins from 1985 to 1994, and then became the Chicago Cubs' team president and CEO from 1994 to 2006.

MacPhail is the son of former American League president Lee MacPhail.
