Red Sox 'haven't eliminated anything' in free agent market
Even though the Boston Red Sox splurged on free agents last season -- which ended poorly -- that doesn't mean the team will shy away from free agents this offseason.
“I’ve had numerous conversations with [Red Sox owner] John Henry — I wouldn’t divulge what my conversations are — but we’ve discussed it quite thoroughly,” Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski said Monday at the general managers’ meetings via the Boston Herald. “We haven’t eliminated anything at this point.”
The two signings that have turned out poorly for the Sox last season were Pablo Sandoval and Hanley Ramirez. Many experts criticized the two acquisitions since the Sox already had a star shortstop in Xander Bogaerts, meaning one of the two would have to learn a new position -- that was Ramirez, who shifted to left field.
This offseason, Ramirez will focus on a transition (again) from the outfield to first base, where he figures to get the bulk of the innings there.
