Rays release Alexi Casilla

SARASOTA, Fla. (AP) The Tampa Bay Rays have released infielder Alexi Casilla.

The veteran infielder, who signed a minor league contract with Tampa Bay in February, was batting .267 in 17 spring training games.

The 30-year-old is a .247 hitter in nine big league seasons with Minnesota and Baltimore.

Casilla was in the Rays' starting lineup for their split-squad game with Boston on Tuesday before the release was announced.
