Rangers RHP Scheppers off rehab, back in bullpen
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) Texas Rangers right-hander Tanner Scheppers has been recalled from an injury rehab assignment, and their opening day starter is going back to the bullpen.
Scheppers had been on the disabled list since April 18 with right elbow inflammation.
To make room on the roster Thursday, the Rangers optioned left-hander Aaron Poreda to Triple-A Round Rock.
In four starts before going on the disabled list, Scheppers was 0-1 with a 9.82 ERA. He was 6-2 with a 1.88 ERA pitching primarily in the eighth inning last season, when his 76 appearances were the most ever for a Texas right-hander.
Alexi Ogando went on the 15-day DL on Wednesday. An MRI showed acute inflammation in his right elbow, and the Rangers say he won't throw again for at least three weeks.
