Rangers RHP Ogando exits World Series game injured
Texas Rangers reliever Alexi Ogando left Game 4 of the World Series with a strained muscle on his left side Sunday night and will be replaced on the roster.
''We'll make a move, but he's through,'' manager Ron Washington said after his team's 4-0 loss to San Francisco that put the Rangers in a 3-1 hole in the best-of-seven series.
Ogando retired his first five batters Sunday night before a 1-1 pitch to Juan Uribe with two outs in the sixth inning sailed way outside and went to the backstop. The right-hander quickly grabbed at his left side, though the Rangers said he felt a twinge there on the first pitch to Uribe.
Washington said Ogando pulled his oblique muscle.
''Threw that slider and it just pulled on him,'' Washington said. ''He was doing a great job, too. But that's the way it goes sometimes. We sure hate to lose him.''
The Rangers didn't say who they would add to the roster before Game 5 on Monday night. Texas has to win to force the World Series back to San Francisco, where the Rangers lost the first two games.
When Ogando's pitch got past Bengie Molina, the catcher motioned toward the mound and team trainer Jamie Reed went out to check on Ogando. It was only a brief meeting before the pitcher walked toward the dugout.
Ogando was relieved by Darren Oliver, who got Uribe on a foul pop.
Ogando took over for starter Tommy Hunter, who allowed two runs and five hits over four innings.
In two World Series games, Ogando threw 3 2-3 scoreless innings with six strikeouts and no walks.
