Prince Fielder discusses retirement decision during emotional press conference

Texas Rangers slugger Prince Fielder said goodbye to baseball during emotional press conference with the media Wednesday afternoon.

Fielder explained his recent neck surgery — his second cervical fusion in just over two years — forced him into this decision:

Fielder struggled to get the words out, as he was rightfully filled with emotion one feels when they realize their baseball-playing career had come to an unexpected, immediate end:

The 32-year-old Fielder finishes his 12-year MLB career as a six-time all-star and a .283/.382/.506 hitter with 319 home runs and 1028 RBI to his name.
