The Pittsburgh Pirates made a move to replenish their worn-out bullpen for the final game of a series against the Cincinnati Reds on Thursday, calling up right-hander Duke Welker from Triple-A Indianapolis.

The Pirates optioned outfielder Alex Presley to Indianapolis to open a roster spot.

Pittsburgh's bullpen was depleted by the last two games. Manager Clint Hurdle used three relievers after Charlie Morton went 5 1-3 innings in a 4-0 victory on Tuesday. Hurdle had to use four relievers in a 2-1, 13-inning loss to the Reds on Wednesday night.

Welker was 3-1 with three saves and a 2.78 ERA in 25 games at Indianapolis.

Presley was called up for the second time on June 8. He batted .293 in 17 games overall with two solo homers.
