DENVER (AP) The San Diego Padres have reinstated infielder Cory Spangenberg from the disabled list after he missed 38 games with a bruised left knee.

To make room on the roster, the Padres optioned left-hander Frank Garces to Triple-A El Paso on Friday.

Spangenberg hit .211 with a homer and four RBIs in nine rehab games with Double-A San Antonio and El Paso. A first-round pick in 2011, Spangenberg is batting .254 with two homers and 11 RBIs this season.
