Nationals' Williams hints at lineup changes to end offensive slide

Published Aug. 14, 2015 12:25 p.m. ET

Washington Nationals manager Matt Williams may shuffle his lineup in an effort to reverse the team's current slide.

The Nationals have been in an offensive funk since the All-Star break and have produced only one run during their three-game losing streak. That came on the first pitch of Thursday's 3-1 loss to the San Francisco Giants.

The latest defeat dropped Washington 4 1/2 games behind the front-running New York Mets in the National League East. The Nationals have averaged 3.6 runs while going 10-17 in the second half, prompting Williams to consider ways to jump-start the offense.

"We can make some changes, sure," Williams said after the latest setback. "You'll know when I make the lineup."

Washington is 4-10 over the past two weeks, starting with a three-game sweep at New York, and has dropped 7 1/2 games in the standings to the Mets.
