Nationals' Stephen Strasburg shaves goatee, hardly recognizable

As he gears up to take the hill for the Washington Nationals again, pitcher Stephen Strasburg looks like a brand-new man.

The 26-year-old righty sported a new look in the Nationals dugout last week after shaving his goatee and trimming his sideburns.

With a hat and sunglasses on, the only defining feature that confirms Strasburg's identity is his No. 37 jersey.

Even his teammates had difficulty recognizing him after he first shaved his facial hair.

"I walked past him in the clubhouse and didn't recognize him," Johnny Holliday said.

"I did, too, the other day in New York," added F.P. Santangelo. "I think it looks good."

Strasburg and the Nationals hope that his new look will bring on new success in 2015.

As he prepares for his return to the Nats with a rehab start on Wednesday, Strasburg dons a 3-5 record with a 6.55 ERA and 45 strikeouts in 10 starts so far this season.
