Nationals' Ryan Zimmerman 'making good progress' as he rehabs foot injury

It's been three weeks since Ryan Zimmerman was placed on the disabled list with plantar fasciitis, and manager Matt Williams has now given an update on the Washington Nationals first baseman as he works his way back onto the field for the Nats.
"He's making good progress," Williams said, per the Washington Post. "The pressure on the plantar fascia is getting reduced with those orthotics and he's feeling better about it. The fact he could get on a treadmill is important. Once he feels better, he's ready to go and it's a question of baseball shape at that point."
The orthotics Williams makes reference to are custom orthotics that Zimmerman can use in his cleats when he returns to the field.
The 30-year-old veteran first baseman jogged 15 minutes earlier this week to test out his left foot.
Zimmerman, who hasn't played for the Nats since June 9, doesn't have a timetable for return yet, but Williams is hopeful the orthotics will expedite his recovery.
"Any player that's ever had [plantar fasciitis], it's painful and doesn't seem to go away," Williams said. "This apparatus will help him get over that hump and get ready to play again."
