Nationals place Ryan Zimmerman on DL

The Washington Nationals have put third baseman Ryan Zimmerman on the 15-day disabled list with a strained abdominal muscle and recalled catcher Jesus Flores from Triple-A Syracuse.

This is Zimmerman's second trip to the DL since arriving in the majors in 2005. Tuesday's move is retroactive to Sunday.

Zimmerman is hitting .357 with a triple, homer and four RBIs in eight games.

Flores gives the Nationals three catchers, along with Ivan Rodriguez and Wilson Ramos.
