Nationals C Sandy Leon sprains ankle in debut

Nationals catcher Sandy Leon has left the game in the fourth inning after spraining his right ankle in a collision at home plate during his major league debut.

Leon was crouched to take a relay throw from shortstop Danny Espinosa as San Diego's Chase Headley tried to score on Orlando Hudson's single to center field on Monday night.

The throw got past Leon just before Headley bowled into him, causing the catcher's right ankle to buckle under him. Leon rose and limped a few steps before dropping to his knees. He was helped off the field by a trainer and bench coach Randy Knorr.

Leon was called up from Double-A Harrisburg Sunday to replace catcher Wilson Ramos, who tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee Saturday at Cincinnati.
