Minor-league update: Bruce Rondon progressing, infielder Josh Prince released

Published Jun. 23, 2015 2:36 p.m. ET

Tigers right-hander Bruce Rondon is making progress at Triple-A Toledo, and if he continues to improve, he could find himself back in the Detroit bullpen very soon.

The reliever is 2-2 with a 7.71 ERA, but he recorded his first save for the Mud Hens on Saturday when he worked a scoreless ninth inning.

Rondon, who was activated off the 15-day disabled list and optioned to Triple-A last week, hasn't allowed a run in his last four appearances.

Another bright spot in Triple-A Toledo has been outfielder Xavier Avery, who is riding a four-game hitting streak. Avery leads the Mud Hens in batting average at .292 and ranks 17th among all players in the International League.

In other Tigers minor-league news, the organization has released infielder Josh Prince.

Prince, who was signed to a minor-league deal this past offseason, was hitting .205 with a .299 slugging percentage in 40 games for Double-A Erie.
