Terry Collins is considered to be among the front-runners for the National League Manager of the Year, but the New York Mets will not address his contract situation until the offseason.

Speaking at a luncheon Monday in Brooklyn, N.Y., Mets general manager Sandy Alderson offered his first public comments on Collins' status for next year and noted that the manager was aware of the club's thinking.

"(Terry) understands that we are going to deal with that after the season," Alderson said.

Collins is in his fifth year with the Mets and in the second season of a two-year contract extension, although the club holds an option for 2016. New York owns a 5 1/2-game lead atop the National League East and is bidding to make its first postseason appearance since 2006.
