DENVER (AP) New York Mets center fielder Juan Lagares rejoined the team Thursday in Denver after spending the previous two weeks on the disabled list recovering a strained right hamstring.

To make room for him on the roster, the Mets optioned outfielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis to Triple-A Las Vegas of the Pacific Coast League.

Nieuwenhuis batted .222 with a homer while helping to fill in for Lagares over the past couple weeks.

Lagares was batting a team-high .314 when he was hurt.
