Matt Wieters in rehab start: 'I feel good right now'

Baltimore Orioles catcher Matt Wieters has been on the road to recovery since Tommy John surgery last season.

The former All-Star took a step forward (after a few setbacks earlier this season), appearing in a game for Double-A Bowie. Wieters went 2-for-4 at the plate and threw out a runner trying to steal.

Following the game, he told Steve Melewski of MASN Sports that he thinks he can get back when he's eligible to come off the disabled list June 4:

"I think so. I feel good right now. We did a lot of work and caught a lot of games down in Florida. It was nice to get out there under the lights, get a little bit of a heartbeat going and play some games with a little bit more meaning. The body and arm feels good. Felt good getting behind the plate and catching. Nice to get a win. Nice to catch a game for about the first time in a year. Pretty happy with how the arm felt and pretty happy with how the night went."

The Orioles have leaned on Caleb Joseph behind the plate and he has done well (.270/.359/.441), but there is no doubt they'd love to have their former first-rounder back in the mix.
