Lucky umpire didn't see a broken bat flying directly toward him

Kansas City Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer shattered his bat in the first inning of a game against the Mets Tuesday, and the barrel soared to first base as the ball bounded foul.

First base umpire John Hirschbeck dodged the ball - but he didn't see the broken bat that landed a foot away from him.
