Lind sends Jays past O's in extras
Adam Lind hit a one-out double in the 10th inning to score the winning run, and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Baltimore Orioles 3-2 on Saturday.
Joe Inglett led off the inning with a single off Danys Baez (4-6), and after he was forced out at second on a bunt by Marco Scutaro, Aaron Hill singled just beyond the outstretched glove of second baseman Ty Wigginton. Lind followed with a double off the wall in left.
The victory snapped the Blue Jays' three-game losing streak while the Orioles lost for the 16th time in 22 games since the All-Star break.
Wigginton entered the game in the ninth as a pinch hitter for Robert Andino, who had replaced starter Brian Roberts in the third. Roberts left with a left shin contusion.
Toronto put the winning run in scoring position in the ninth, but Baez got Edwin Encarnacion and Raul Chavez on fielder's choice grounders, sending the game to extra innings.
Nick Markakis doubled off the base of the left field wall on Brian Tallet's first pitch of the 10th but advanced no farther. Tallet left after striking out Aubrey Huff and Jason Frasor (6-2) got Nolan Reimold and Melvin Mora on ground outs.
Making just his third start, Orioles rookie Chris Tillman went a career-high 6 2-3 innings, allowing two runs and four hits. The right-hander walked three and struck out four.
Toronto took the lead in the second on a two-run homer by Alex Rios, his 14th of the season and second in as many days. Baltimore tied it in the fourth on back-to-back doubles by Huff and Reimold.
Toronto left-hander Brett Cecil left in the fifth after injuring his left knee trying to field a bunt single by Andino. The rookie allowed two runs and five hits in 4 1-3 innings, walked three and struck out two. He was replaced by Tallet.
The Orioles loaded the bases with one out in the sixth, but Tallet got Matt Wieters to pop to short and escaped when Cesar Izturis flied out to center.
Tallet stranded two more runners in the seventh, getting Reimold to ground out with men at second and third.
Baltimore's regular second baseman, Roberts left in the third, two innings after fouling a ball off his lower leg. The Orioles said precautionary X-rays were negative.
