John Buck headed to DL after taking foul tip

John Buck, the Toronto Blue Jays' All-Star catcher, will go on the 15-day disabled list Thursday after leaving a 5-1 loss to the New York Yankees with a cut right thumb, an injury sustained when hit by an Alex Rodriguez foul tip.

Buck came out of Wednesday's game in the fifth inning, four innings after Rodriguez hit his 600th home run. X-rays were negative but Buck needed 3 stitches to close the cut.

Jose Molina replaced Buck after a brief delay.

Buck is hitting .279 with 14 homers and 49 RBIs.

Toronto will fill Buck's roster spot by selecting the contract of 24-year-old catcher J.P. Arencibia from Las Vegas of the Triple-A Pacific Coast League. Arencibia is hitting .303 with 31 homers and 79 RBIs.
