The Giants reliever is one of 44 current and former athletes and sports personalities being recognized for their philanthropic efforts. 10 will be chosen as “All Stars of Giving” and the “Humanitarian of the Year” for 2015 will receive $100,000 for his or her charity.

Affeldt is co-founder of Generation Alive which is a non-profit founded 10 years ago which engages young people to combat human trafficking and promote hunger relief as well as foster leadership development. The charity is inspired by Affeldt’s Christian faith. He recently wrote in the Players’ Tribune about being inspired to do more off the field after meeting a homeless teenager in 2006.

Two other baseball players are among the 44 nominees: Jimmy Rollins and Albert Pujols.
