MIAMI (AP) Marlins pitcher Henderson Alvarez has exited Monday's game because of a side injury, slamming the ball into his manager's hand as he left the mound.

Alvarez retired the first six batters before allowing a home run to Dilson Herrera in the third inning. The Mets scored four times before Alvarez was pulled.

Alvarez slammed the ball into Miami manager Mike Redmond's palm as he walked off.

The 24-year-old right-hander has a strained left oblique.
