Indians turn to Shaun Marcum for spot start on Wednesday

The Cleveland Indians have a temporary patch for the hole in their starting rotation.
Shaun Marcum will start for the Tribe in Wednesday's matchup with the White Sox in Chicago, manager Terry Francona told reporters on Sunday.
Aside from a five-inning relief appearance for Cleveland in early April, Marcum has spent the bulk of the season at Triple-A Columbus, where he's gone 4-0 with a 1.36 ERA in five start.
Marcum hasn't started a major-league game since July 6, 2013 with the Mets.
"He's worked hard for this opportunity," Indians manager Terry Francona said via MLB.com. "He pitched well in the spring and we told him we'd like for him to pitch more. To his credit, he went down to Triple-A and picked up right where he left off."
Marcum will take the place of Bruce Chen in the Tribe's starting rotation. Chen had started two games for the injured TJ House, but was designated for assignment Saturday after two poor outings.
"Shaun and Chen put up fairly similar numbers at Columbus," said Francona via Cleveland.com. "Shaun has been with us for two years. He's rehabbed a bunch and he's worked hard to get this opportunity. He's a really good athlete. He fields his position. He's not going to break the radar gun but he competes. We're excited about this."
With House close to returning from the disabled list, Marcum likely won't be needed for more than one or two starts. The team is expected to option right-hander Austin Adams to make room for Marcum on the roster.
