Images from the Chicago Cubs' Championship parade
The Chicago Cubs held their first World Series Championship parade in over 100 years on Friday. Here are some of the lasting images from the historic event.
Chicago Cubs fans have been waiting their entire lives to see a World Series title. Many Cubs fans went their entire lives without seeing one. However, all of that is no longer true thanks to their 2016 World Series title. The city of Chicago adores their Cubs, so everyone knew the parade was going to be something special. It hasn’t disappointed so far.
The Cubs won the Fall Classic by beating the Cleveland Indians. Along the way, they overcame a 3-1 series deficit in the World Series. It was an emotional series for Chicago, as they had the weight of 108 years without a championship on their shoulders. Game 7 proved to be one of the most dramatic of its kind in the history of baseball. Every time the Cubs took the lead, the Indians found a way to claw back.
However, after a rain delay before the 10th inning, Chicago took an 8-6 lead. This is the lead they didn’t relinquish, as they beat the Indians 8-7. On Friday, the Cubs and the city of Chicago partied to celebrate the end of the Billy Goat Curse.
The Cubs entered the 2016 season as the favorites. Despite having a constant target on their backs, they finished the regular season with an impressive record. Before beating the Indians in the Fall Classic, they had to overcome the even year magic of the San Francisco Giants. They disposed of them in four games in the NLDS. In the NLCS, they had to outplay the Los Angeles Dodgers. They beat them in six games.
108 years of frustration and agony are finally over. The Cubs and their fans are celebrating it. Here are some images defining exactly what it meant to the Cubs and Chicago.
