Hudson set to join White Sox

Published May. 20, 2012 2:34 p.m. ET

Veteran infielder Orlando Hudson appears set to join the Chicago White Sox.

Although the team has not announced his signing, manager Robin Ventura says he is on his way and that third baseman Brent Morel is likely headed to the disabled list because of lower back soreness.

A four-time Gold Glove second baseman, Hudson was waived Thursday by San Diego as part of a shake-up of the middle infield. Ventura says Hudson will probably see time at third even though he has never played there in the majors, with Gordon Beckham solidifying his spot at second.

Ventura spoke before Sunday's game against the Chicago Cubs.

The White Sox will be the sixth team in 11 seasons for Hudson, a career .276 hitter. Morel is hitting .177.
