Holliday ejected for arguing third strike

Published Jun. 25, 2011 10:42 p.m. ET

The Cardinals' Matt Holliday has been ejected for arguing a called third strike in the eighth inning of St. Louis' game against Toronto.

The Cardinals had two men on with none out trailing the Blue Jays 5-2 Saturday night when home plate umpire Marvin Hudson ruled Holliday out on Jon Rauch's pitch near the inside corner. Holliday was tossed after protesting at the plate and again after taking a few steps toward the dugout.

The next batter, Lance Berkman, grounded into an inning-ending double play.
