Giants manager Bochy indicates Lincecum move coming soon
Although it’s not official yet, it’s likely that Tim Lincecum will be placed on the disabled list for the first time in his nine-year career, according to Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News. There had been speculation that Lincecum would be put in the bullpen due the imminent returns of Jake Peavy and Matt Cain as well as his ineffectiveness of late. However, after exiting Saturday’s game due to being struck by a line drive to his forearm, the DL makes more sense.
Per Baggarly, Giants manager Bruce Bochy hinted strongly at a move on Lincecum:
“His stuff is dropping really fast in the game…Timmy, like all these guys, they aren’t going to want it. It’s a no-brainer now. Hopefully this gives us a chance to get his strength and stamina back.”
Through his first eight starts, Lincecum had an ERA of 2.08. Over his last seven starts, his ERA has nearly doubled to 4.13 while he’s given up four earned runs or more in four of those starts.
